Über die Hälfte der Fläche von Ostprignitz-Ruppin wird
landwirtschaftlich genutzt, davon rund zwei Drittel
als Acker- und ein Drittel als Grünland. Bereits rund
12% der Flächen werden ökologisch bewirtschaftet.
Rinderweide- und Milchviehhaltung sowie der Kartof-
felanbau sind die bedeutendsten Bereiche der Nah-
rungsmittelerzeugung. Zusätzlich zur Produktion für
die Nahrungs- und Futtermittelindustrie entstanden in
den vergangenen Jahren neue Handlungsfelder durch
den Anbau von nachwachsenden Rohstoffen und
Energiepflanzen.
Wälder machen rund ein Drittel der Fläche Ostprig-
nitz-Ruppins aus, über Dreiviertel der Waldfläche sind
mit Kiefern bestockt. Die Forstwirtschaft ist Rohstoff-
lieferant für die holzverarbeitende Industrie und das
Handwerk sowie für Papiererzeugung und energe-
tische Holznutzung. Der Wald ist aber nicht nur ein
wichtiger Produzent nachwachsender Rohstoffe, son-
dern hat natürlich auch bedeutende Funktionen als
Erholungs- und Lebensraum.
Sustainable production
Over half of the surface area of the Ostprignitz-Ruppin
region is farmed, two thirds as arable land and a third
as pasture. Approximately 12% of the area is alrea-
dy farmed organically. Rearing beef and dairy cattle
and potato cultivation are the biggest areas of food
production. In addition to production for the food and
animal feed industries, new spheres of activity have
arisen in recent years with the production of renewa-
ble raw materials and energy crops.
Around a third of the Ostprignitz-Ruppin region is
forested, more than three-quarters of which is pine
forest. The timber industry is a producer of raw ma-
terials for the wood-processing and craft industries,
as well as paper production and the use of wood for
energy production. However, the forest is not only an
important producer of renewable raw materials; it also
plays an important role of course as a recreational area
and natural habitat.
